I can honestly say without him I wouldn’t be the player I am now. Someone who has really helped me get to where I am today is my assistant coach here at Dayton, Brian Jankowski. Players are fitter, stronger, and have more skill.Ħ) Who is someone who really helped get you to where you are today in soccer? From the college level to professional level brings a whole new pace to the game. The part of my game I am looking to improve on the most moving to the professional level is speed of play. If it doesn’t work out I will most likely be trying to find a spot on a team overseas when the window opens up again.ĥ) What part of your game are you looking to improve on the most as you enter professional soccer? That way I can be seen/monitored by the coach and hope to find a spot on the team for next season with international players moving out. I will be playing games with the Reserve team, but will be training with the Professional team. I will be driving to Houston the first week of June. The tryout was 4 days long, consisting of 3 training sessions and a game.Ĥ) Could you explain what the process is after graduation? Where you’re going, what your role is, schedule, time-tables, etc? Also, open tryouts for other NWSL teams cost $50-$100. It seemed like my best bet at the time so I decided that would be the tryout I would focus on. I was also invited to the Houston tryout. In order to go to the tryout I had to find my own way and place to stay. The unfortunate thing about women’s soccer is that there isn’t a lot of money. I only went to one tryout and it was with Houston. When I lead the nation in assists and broke the Dayton single season record my sophomore year I think that’s when it started to feel real for me, like I could really play at the next level.ģ) How did the whole tryout process work? How many teams did you try out for? I wasn’t entirely clear about how good I was and the level of professional soccer when I was a freshman. I think I realized after my sophomore year that I had the potential to play professionally. I am now going to play for Houston’s Reserve team this summer.Ģ) At what point did you realize that you could play soccer at the professional level? From there, I spoke with an agent through a friend who contacted a couple of teams in Sweden and Finland for me, but the window had closed for brining in players this year. I was told I was good enough to be on the team, but because of the international rule, which is 5 per team, I wouldn’t be able to be on the team. I then went for an invited tryout with the Houston Dash in March. I started emailing teams in England but quickly learned that if you want to play soccer in England you have to have a European passport or have played in 70% of your country’s national team games. The draft took place in January and I wasn’t drafted so I had a couple of options from there. I registered for the NWSL draft, which included submitting a highlight video and answering a couple of other basic questions about my playing career. 1) Once your college career was over, what was the process of trying to continue your soccer career?
